OPI Blue My Mind Swatch

Blue, polish, OPI, swatch, blog

glitter, snowing, blue, polish, swatch

This would be the first time I've painted my nails this year.  I usually paint them more often then that, but I guess life as just been kind of crazy recently.
I wound up doing 3 coats of OPI Blue My Mind.  It was just so thin and streaky!  Then I added sort-of-french-tips with How's it Snowin'? to my left hand.  As you can see, it didn't turn out well.  I figured it would be best not to try the same to my right hand.

What do you think?

Haul

I told you that I did a little bit of shopping on Sunday.  Not much, but we were running errands and I wanted to grab some stuff.

We started at Ulta, for my mom actually.  She need more powder, but turns out Urban Decay discontinued their loose powder?  I guess they'll be launching the new one on Thursday, though.  Since I figured we'd be back soon I didn't bother getting anything.

We went to JcPennys next and browsed the clearance.  They actually have some really great deals going on right now.  I found this adorable bow top, but it was only in XL.  Of course I can't find it on their website at all.

Bridget's Service Dog Update

New here?  Follow us on Bloglovin'!

So today, Bridget is going to share an update on her service dog.  Remember back in October when I posted about her fundraiser?  Well here's her story on what happened during her last trip to New Mexico!
Hi, just an UPDATE! We, my mom and I (Bridget), we were in New Mexico on December 3, 2013 to December 6, 2013 to try to find my service dog. On the way, in the Denver airport, there was a really nice worker at the gate to our second plane. I complimented her penguin pin and she gave it to me, I said thank you and we were off. I never found out her name, but I just want to say thank you for this pin.

We got there the rest of the way by this train called the Rail Runner. When the door closes instead of saying “CAUTION THE DOORS ARE ABOUT TO CLOSE” it says “Meep Meep, Meep Meep” like the cartoon character Road Runner. So cute!
The next day in Santa Fe we walked to Assistance Dogs of the West. I saw Hubbie, then Charlie Brown, and last but not least Tulip. Hubbie’s nice, Charlie’s shy but sweet, and Tulip was excited to see me again. I didn’t get to see Max the Yellow Lab again, but hopefully next time.

                                Hubbie                                     Charlie Brown                                Tulip
We never had our second meeting and didn't find the dog yet partially because of this…

By the way, this is New Mexico! They barley ever get this. So, we got back safely and are going back soon. I will keep you posted!
       Thanks for helping,
                          Bridget

Mail Monday

New here?  Follow us on Bloglovin'!

Remember when we started Mail Monday back in September?  You can see the original post here.  We really haven't posted about it much lately, since we've been mostly getting magazines.  We definitely get A LOT of magazines, though.

Here's what we got recently:

THREE pairs of pointe shoes from Dancewear Solutions

These great Key Socks!  Check out what I thought of them here.

This leotard from All About Dance.  I love it!

This birthday card from Anthropologie.  I thought the little hats were adorable.
This End Partisanship sticker.

These awesome samples from Aveeno
We would love to get letters from you!!  Leave a comment below, or e-mail us (globsoflipstickclumpsofmascara@gmail.com) and we can exchange addresses.

My 5 Little Grins from this week include. . .

1. I got another pair of pointe shoes sewn.  We ordered 3 (!!) pairs.  Which, should hopefully get me through the rest of the year, but I'm not sure at this point (haha).  I've gotten the first two sewn and will be rotating between those two and my other pair.  Hand sewing is exhausting and tedious!

2. Rehearsals went great on Saturday!  We've only had 2 rehearsals with the choreographer, the rest have been with dance teachers from the studio.  Like I said yesterday, we have a full run-through with the company director/ choreographer next weekend and I we're actually ready for it!

3. Also on Saturday, during our break our rehearsal director was nice enough to help me with audition photos!  My camera was acting crazy so we didn't get a perfect shot, but we got one that's good enough.

4. I found EDraw.  I've been using it to brain storm more post ideas!  Recently, I've been posting practically everyday, sometimes twice a day.  It can be very hard to come up with post ideas!

5. I got my birthday gift from Sephora!!  Although I don't think it is as great as last year's, it's still pretty cool.  I was going to get a new eyelash curler when I was there because mine broke, but I couldn't justify paying almost $20, so I got  a $2 one at Target.

The Sunday Currently

Good afternoon!  I hope your week wrapped up well.  My week wasn't too bad, but I am very exhausted.  (and freezing my ass off of course, what is this weather??)
siddathornton

I'm currently. . .

Reading nothing right now.  I finished Be More Chill yesterday night.  I'm horrible at reading so far this month!  Only two books.  Do you have any suggestions?

Writing nothing, again.  I have been planning out post topics though, so I will be writing all those up too!  Is there anything you want me to post about this week?

Listening to my January playlist on Spotify.  You should follow!

Thinking about Alice in Wonderland!  We start  full run-throughs next weekend.  It's really exciting because we haven't been able to see the whole thing yet.

Smelling grilled cheese.  That's what we had for lunch haha

Wishing there was an extra day in the weekend.  I'm so exhausted!!

Hoping they don't cancel dance tomorrow.  A few schools have already cancelled.

Wearing a t-shirt I got at a dance competition and my favorite skinny jeans.  I'm only dressed because we went shopping earlier!  I'll post about what I got later :)

Wanting cake.  I don't know why, but I guess I'll get some soon enough haha

Needing a nap.  I think I complain about my lack of sleep too much.  It doesn't matter when I go to bed or what meds I take, I don't get more than 6 hours of sleep.  But even 6 is rare.

Clicking through my dance photos.  Going to another audition on Sunday!

What are you up to the Sunday?

#backthatazzup

New here?  Follow us on Bloglovin'!
So, the song I had planned on linking up was what Whitney chose, so I figured it would be good to pick another one :)  I really like the song I originally picked because that's what we have been using at the beginning of my jazz class recently!  Most of us have over 2 hours of ballet before that class so we're definitely ready to fall asleep (and it's only Thursday!).  This makes it so much easier to stay awake!

Not only was this song a great response to Blurred Lines, it also makes for a great jam session song!

Vacations

Showered With Design
Today's prompt: Tuesday, January 21: Do you have any awesome vacations planned for the year? If not, where would be your ideal spot?

I do not have anything solidified yet.  However, we are supposed to go to Cincinnati in April for dance.  That's where the company director lives.  We'd probably sleep in her basement while we are there too.  I really hope it works out because it sounds pretty great.

Other than that, I'm not positive of anything else.  It is possible that I may be going somewhere for a Summer Intensive, but that is pretty unlikely at this point.

If I had to pick one place, New York City would be my ideal vacation spot.  I love big cities & am SO glad I live near not only Chicago but Milwaukee as well!  I always get really excited whenever we go to either even just for day trips.

Key Socks: Review

New here?  Follow us on Bloglovin'!
PR Sample Provided

Unless you're in the southern hemisphere (is Australia even real?) it's winter.  I don't know about you, but I prefer to not have my feet freeze & fall off.  That's just a personal opinion, though.

I love to wear these shoes.  Actually, they're practically the only normal shoes I wear!  I prefer not to put my feet directly in them, because that feels odd to me.  Plus, I wear them all the time coming home from dance and I really don't want my sweaty feet getting my shoes all gross!

"But, Cassandra!  They have these things, they're not even new, there's actually a pair that has survived and dates back from 300-500 AD.  They're called SOCKS."

Um. Excuse me?  You think I can just put socks on underneath my shoes and that would solve all my problems? Ha! No.  It would solve the sweat problem, and the cold problem.  However, it would also create a problem.  The "dang-that-chick-looks-like-a-dork-because-she's-wearing-ankle-socks-with-shoes-that-clearly-don't-go-to-her-ankle" problem.

So I got some of those small socks that don't go all the way up to your ankle, but instead barely go past your toes.  If you own them, I'm sure you know how well they work.  Meaning that they don't work well.  At all.  If I put those socks on, then put my shoes on and go for a walk, there is a 97% chance the heel of the socks will have fallen off my heel before I've taken 5 steps.  As much as I love stopping and adjusting my sock every three steps, wait-- I don't love stopping and adjusting my sock every three steps.

"Dang Cassandra!  You complain a lot.  These are all clearly first-world problems.  Some people can't even own shoes and you're complaining about your flipping socks?"  Please calm down, this post wasn't meant to be a rant, but to share with you the solution to my problems.
KeySocks!

"KeySocks??"  Yes, Key Socks.  Key Socks are knee high socks with a hole wear ballet flats have a hole.  This not only solves the problem with my shoes, but also the problem you have with pretty much ALL flats and even some closed toe heels!

When I found the Key Socks website (check it out for yourself here), I was kind of confused.  Why the heck would I want knee high socks with a hole in them?  But, then I realized that they solved pretty much all my sock related problems!  They were actually on the Today Show (x).

Girls' pairs go for about $9.95 and women's go for about $11.95.  If you order online shipping is $3.95, unless you buy 4 or more pairs in which case it's free!  Plus, if you enter the code NEWKEY at check out you'll get 15% off.  $11.95 is pretty steep for a pair of socks in my opinion, but I think it depends on how much use you get out of them!

My mom works at Clarks Bostonian.  The socks they sell are about $12 too.  I thought this was crazy (and still kind of do) until I heard about their policy!  If your socks get a hole, tear, or shrink, they will exchange them for new ones!  I think that's pretty great and a policy like that would be great for Key Socks!

Katie & I both tried Key Socks and we only found one problem.  When Katie wore them without shoes, the part covering her toes kept falling off.  I don't think this is a huge problem, though, since the socks don't need to be worn without shoes any way!

Overall, I would give Key Socks 4.5 stars out of 5 and definitely suggest you get some.

-Cassi

We were provided with 4 pairs of Key Socks in exchange for our honest opinion.  All opinions expressed are our own.

1. Follow your hosts: CassandraRaewyn, and Paulina!

2. Link up your post that includes 5-ish things that made you smile in the past week

3. Comment after you link up

4. Go visit some other blogs and make some friends!

5. Have fun, and don't forget to smile!!

My 5 Little Grins from this week include. . .

1. This past week was finals week.  I had to take a final last year for Geometry since it was technically a high school course, but I've never had whole week dedicated to finals and it was pretty stressful.  I got 100% on my Biology final, though so I was pretty happy!

2. Friday was my grandmother's birthday.  So, we had Katie, her mother, and our grandmother over!  We got to have pot pies which I've been asking for for some time now.  Plus, my aunt made cake which was really good.

3. The leotard I ordered a little over a week ago showed up on Thursday.  I wore it that day, the day of audition photos, and for the audition yesterday!  It's so comfy- I love it!  I even got a few compliments on it.

4. Being allowed to go to the ABT audition on Sunday.  I found out about it on Monday and my parents were able to make it work!  I don't think I made it, but I just went for the experience as the summer intensive itself is super expensive.

5. Having friends we know from the boat over on Saturday.  They weren't able to come on New Years Eve because Bridget had to have an MRI and the roads were horrible.  (You can read more about Bridget here)  So, we made all the food we had on New Years.  It was great!

I'm currently. . .

Reading Be More Chill by Ned Vizzini.  I think it is pretty good so far, but not as good as It's Kind of a Funny story.

Writing a guest post for Jen over at From One Journey to the Next.

Wishing I'd gotten more sleep this morning.  I'm exhausted.  I think getting up early to go to the audition was worth it though.

Hoping I make it into the ABT Summer Intensive.  I don't think I would actually be able to go, but it would be cool to know I made it.

Wearing shorts and a t-shirt from my elementary school.  No point in putting real clothes on and I'm not keeping a leotard on.

Loving that I got to go to an audition today despite the short notice!  My dad worked really hard to make it work and I'm really happy that it did.

Wanting a blueberry bagel.  It sounds ridiculously good right now for some reason.
