Mani Monday: Gradient Heart

New here?  Follow us on Bloglovin'!
Valentine's Day is this weekend already!  2015 is going by unbelievably quickly already, but it's great.

I actually haven't painted my nails much recently (not at all in 2015) I thought it was time for a Valentine's mani.  Of course you guys get to learn how to do it too!

This is actually super easy, as long as you can do a gradient!

Start with a white base.  My favorite is Sinful Colors Snow Me White.  Two coats is usually needed.

Next, you'll cut a heart shape out of tape.  Stick the tape on your hand a few times to keep it from being too sticky, then place it on the nail, making sure the heart is where you want it and that there aren't any air holes.

Then, go ahead and do your gradient over that.  I did a three color gradient using a light pink, medium pink, and a red, but anything you like will do.

Add a top coat and you're done!

If We Designed Nail Polish. . .

New here?  Follow us on Bloglovin'!
When we were little, we thought the nail polish name were hilarious.  Heck, we still do!  Whoever gets to name the polishes is pretty lucky- can you imagine a better job?  Well, you probably can, but naming nail polishes still sounds pretty great.

Anyways, when Julep contacted us about "designing" a nail polish and naming we thought it would be fun.

Our polish would be a crisp white with matter flakes of color in it.  The flakes would be six colors- pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple.

We were inspired by the Color Run as well as these flowers Cassandra got for recital.

We would name this polish Mina, after Cassi's blue & gold macaw.

Plus, Julep is having a NYCFW contest.  Enter here

Splatter Nail Art Tutorial

New here?  Follow us on Bloglovin'!
As promised, today we're going to share how we did our nails for the color run.  We think this look is super cool and can be used for any style.

You'll need:
-Your favorite white nail polish
-A few different acrylic paint colors
-An old toothbrush you no long use
-Clear top coat
-Plastic grocery bag

Start with a white base.  It doesn't have to be perfect- most of it will be covered up- but, you do want it to be good and opaque.

Next, pour a blob of paint on a piece of paper or your plastic bag (lay your bag flat for this part) and get a good amount on your tooth brush.  Practice flicking it on the paper like Katie does in the video.  (Sorry for the poor quality.  It was taken on my phone in the hotel room with bad lighting)

Once you've gotten good at it, go ahead and start on your nails.  Be sure to wash the brush off in between colors so you don't get any weird blends.  Just as you would for water marbling, you can take your fingers off to keep them clean, but that's totally optional.  The paint peels right off your fingers once it's dry so it wasn't a huge deal for us.

As soon as the acrylic paint is dry, add a top coat to all your nails and wash the paint off your hands.

There you have it!  If you try this yourself, we'd love to see- share it with us on Instagram by tagging @cassipolzin

Stay gorgeous

OPI Blue My Mind Swatch

Blue, polish, OPI, swatch, blog

glitter, snowing, blue, polish, swatch

This would be the first time I've painted my nails this year.  I usually paint them more often then that, but I guess life as just been kind of crazy recently.
I wound up doing 3 coats of OPI Blue My Mind.  It was just so thin and streaky!  Then I added sort-of-french-tips with How's it Snowin'? to my left hand.  As you can see, it didn't turn out well.  I figured it would be best not to try the same to my right hand.

What do you think?

Orly Electrum Swatch

I got a mini Orly polish in my Cara Box from Chloe.  I thought it was super cute and I couldn't wait tot try it.  It definitely did not disappoint.  After two coats it had pretty much solid coverage and I really love the color!  Very Emerald City- esque!

Influenster Varsity VoxBox 2013

I got all this for free from Influenster, in exchange for my honest reviews across social media platforms along with engaging with the brand.  I am not being paid to review said items.

Guess what I found in the mail on Tuesday when we were at the house!  (You probably already read the title though, right?)

Please note that I was entirely too excited, thanks to USPS THROWING OUT MY LAST VOXBOX to take nice pictures.  In the individual review posts they will be better.  I pinky promise.

NAIL FAIL: Spooky Spider Nails

So since Katie was over on Friday (She's actually over every Friday and she does help make some of the big decisions behind the blog, but she doesn't have that much time to do posts and such.  She is working on one now, though, that will be up soon!) I decided I would paint her nails.  It really did not go as planned, but I took pictures, so now you can laugh too!

Originally I was doing to do a gradient on four of her nails with spiders on them and just a solid color on her thumb with a spider web.  You can decide for yourself what you think it turned out looking like!

Don't worry though, we'll have some better tutorials up for you soon! :)

Kiss Graduation Polish

New here?
Follow on Bloglovin

This is Katie, Monday Cassandra painted my nails with Graduation Polish by Kiss in the gold color.  There are three steps- the first one is painting your whole nail with a mixture of a shiny white and gold tan color. The second polish goes on the last third of your nail and it is a sparkly tan.  Then, the last one goes on the last half of the nail and is all tan and silver sparkles.  Here is what you get!

I think this nail polish is pretty.  My nails make most polish chip off in a day or two, but this one stays on well.  I like this polish and would suggest it if you like sparkles.

My Overall Rating- *****

I've decided to have a nail art challenge!  I love participating in challenges, but I hate having to do something new everyday.  So, for my challenge it will be 1 prompt a week for 13 weeks.  It will run from June 5th to August 28th.  If you participate in every prompt, there will be a prize!  I'm not saying what it is yet though!  If you wish to participate, please e-mail me here.  Below is a list of the prompts.  If you want to tweet or post to FB about this I would love it!

I do not have the ilinkz set up yet, but once I do I will e-mail them to the participants so they can link up their nail art!

Red Carpet Gel Manicure Starter Set Review

**PR sample provided by company representative**
I recently got the Red Carpet Manicure set with the RCM Portable Light.  I am very pleased with it so far.  I haven't seen how long it lasts, but if it last as long as it says it does then going through so many steps will definitely be worth it.

Sinful Colors Let's Talk

No dance this weekend so I was doing some nail art!  Today I'm going to show you some swatches of Sinful Colors Let's Talk on my friend, Bridget.  This is a very pretty vibrant purple.

Then I topped this with OPI Turquoise Shatter.  I think it looks really nice!

Old Mani!

Here's a random mani I wore a while ago.  I didn't think it was good enough to post, but now I'm going to anyway!
The base is ORLY Space Cadet, then I used black shatter by OPI and Jaguar by Pure Ice for the spots!

Please ignore the bird toys in the background lol!

ORLY Nail Art

For this I was going for a skyline-ish look on my thumbs.  It didn't turn out as great as I thought, but I am pretty pleased.  For this I started by painting all my nails with ORLY Sapphire Silk which is a dark teal.  Next I added a coat of China Glaze Fairy Dust- which I am almost out of :(.  I then did stripes on my thumbs using ORLY Galaxy Girl and Space Cadet from the Cosmic FX Collection from Fall 2010.  Now for pictures! :)

China Glaze Who's Wearing What

I recently won this is a Giveaway from Cynthia at Of Life and Lacquer!  I was very unsure about this shade at first.  It looked very grey, but I was pleased when it looked very purple on my nails.  This did take 3 coats and with that still has some balding.  This was a pain to apply for me.  It stayed very streaky and bubbled a little bit.

I liked this polish color, but the formula wasn't very good.
